Keynote: Mike Lawrence on "Common Ground"
Start the day fired up by our keynote speaker Mike Lawrence. Mike is an award-winning teacher, administrator, and non-profit educational leader. He was a high school English and composition teacher and served as CEO of CUE (CUE.org), helping the nonprofit grow five-fold in 12 years. He served two terms on the ISTE board, and also volunteered as Director of the CA Student Media Festival for a decade. He co-founded the Google Certified Teacher (now Innovator) program and supported the development of the ISTE Certified Educator program. He is proud to support educators worldwide in his current role as Senior Director of Educator Engagement overseeing User Groups and EDGE Conference content at PowerSchool and is Chief Maverick of MaverickLearning, his transformational consulting firm.

Legislative Updates
With the first legislative session under new Governor Gavin Newsom having ended, Barrett Snider and Caitlin Jung from Capitol Advisors Group will provide an overview of recently enacted laws affecting schools as well as look forward to upcoming issues in 2020. This presentation will include a look at the new charter school laws and the anticipated conversation next year around non-classroom-based charter schools. Snider and Jung will also provide an analysis and update on the state economy as we prepare for the release of the Governor’s budget in January.
