Sowing the Seeds of a Growth Mindset
As a long time, implicit component of effective independent study and other alternative settings, the notion of “Growth Mindset” has boomed in the recent past with Carol Dweck’s popularization of the term in her work Mindset: The New Psychology of Success. This presentation seeks to encourage evaluation of the individual attendee’s relationship to a growth mindset and provide tools for encouraging a culture of growth mindset in the independent study setting, all in an effort to develop academically engaged students. Other topics to be discussed include: trauma sensitivity, incorporating growth mindset into curriculum, and the legislation in support of growth mindset. Participants are encouraged to share their own experience with the growth mindset concept and will benefit from bringing an electronic device to the presentation.
